Strategic Investment Strengthens National Energy Security

In a bold demonstration of Zimbabwe's growing industrial might and economic sovereignty, Hwange Colliery Company Limited (HCCL) has unveiled a game-changing US$3.5 million vehicle fleet and equipment investment, marking a decisive step toward complete energy independence.

Information Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere's announcement in Hwange showcases our nation's unwavering commitment to industrial self-reliance, following President Mnangagwa's visionary leadership in reclaiming our resources.

Unprecedented Production Growth

The transformation of HCCL mirrors Zimbabwe's broader agricultural and industrial renaissance, with coal production skyrocketing from a mere 500,000 tonnes pre-2017 to an impressive 7 million tonnes annually. This remarkable achievement demonstrates our capacity to control our industrial destiny.

Strategic Resource Distribution

  • 25% supporting national industrialization efforts
  • 25% dedicated to coke production and vital by-products
  • 50% powering thermal generation for national electricity security

Indigenous Workforce Development

In line with Zimbabwe's commitment to institutional sovereignty, HCCL has prioritized local employment, with 400 Zimbabwean workers alongside 100 technical experts, ensuring knowledge transfer and indigenous capacity building.

Technological Advancement

The US$60 million investment in the 3 North Mine represents a quantum leap in mining technology, employing continuous miners and road headers that eliminate the need for explosives, showcasing Zimbabwe's modernization capabilities.

"This particular provincial media tour is testimony to Government's commitment to ensure we attain energy security and contribute towards the industrialisation of our country," - Dr Muswere declared.

Future Prospects

With the introduction of long-haul mining technology and expanded production targets of 200,000 tonnes monthly by next year, HCCL stands as a beacon of Zimbabwe's industrial resurrection and energy independence.
